About IARSCS

The institute provides advanced research in the field of science and technology and is aimed to improve the research capabilities at University of Sindh, Pakistan. The establishment of Institute of Advanced Research Studies in Chemical Sciences (formerly High Technology Central Resource Laboratory), was undertaken to realize the broad based agenda of providing quality education by modernizing and upgrading Lab facilities and improving the quality of instruction in Labs and Class rooms of public sector universities.

Day by day, the institute is enhancing its manpower skills, developing structural merits, as well as promoting modern research methods among upcoming research scholars of the country.

Inaugural

The Institute has been constructed and equipped by pooling of resources from HEC (39.225 Million) and the Vice-Chancellor University of Sindh, Mr. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who skillfully managed to spare an enormous sum of 14 Million from university's own account, despite severe financial constraints for the construction of building.

Structure

The structure of IARSCS is extended over peaceful white building with ten different Labs including one Computer/Internet lab providing 24 hours and 7 days a week of internet facility using its own University's ISP. This ISP also has an access to HEC's Digital Library, where the electronic world of knowledge through Books, Journals, Research Papers and other material is accessible free of cost to researchers. There are three class rooms with 40 seats and a 300 seat Auditorium with total Audio Visual/Net Aid for multipurpose use is also an integral part of the building. Besides all this, it is having its own Chemical/Glassware store capable for chasing the laboratory requirements.


Aims and Objectives

  • Establish institutional perspective on research priorities and strengths by introducing the 4-year Ph.D. programme, which is specifically aimed at students who wish to acquire advanced research skills and possibly pursue an academic career. There are benefits to be gained by students who will acquire integrated research methodology skills and specialist knowledge in the field of chemical sciences.

  • Register the students for the degrees of M.Phil. and Ph.D. programme. Students are normally registered for MS/M.Phil. course work in the first instance followed by research project. The students can be transferred to Ph.D. programme if the scope and progress of their research is satisfactory. Students are required to take an appropriate programme of research training.

  • Acquire sate of art laboratory equipments pertaining to the disciplines of Faculty of Natural Sciences: Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Fresh Water Biology, Geology, Biotechnology, Physiology, Physics, Information Technology, Mathematics and Computer Science, Statistics and also faculty of Pharmacy which was one of the institutes of Faculty of Natural Sciences.

  • House and maintain equipments at a centrally located environment friendly building and provide easy accessibility to all the centers, institutes, departments and research scholars.

  • Run refresher course for teachers in order to improve the quality of instruction in lab practice.

  • Create a positive research environment and maximize the potential of staff.

  • Assist the local industry in identifying and resolving related problems.

  • Aid Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations in monitoring environment.

  • Maximize performance in future research assessments.

  • Act as regional quality assurance centre.
